In 2012 the SPBC conducted a "trial session" to determine the feasiblilty of establishing a "Youth Division". The 10 Wednesday evening trial session started on October 10th and ended on December 19th. The objective was to determine if there was sufficient interest to offer the "Youth Division" into 2013 and beyond. Data from the "trial session" revealed that the interest/support was inadequate, and hence the "Youth Division" program was not extended.
In 2013/14 the SPBC conducted a second "trial session" for 19 Friday evenings. This offered an opportunity for "Youths" as well as "Adults" to play . Due to lack of player turnout the Friday evening sessions were cancelled after only 8 nights of play.
If adequate interest is demonstrated for a "Youth" (target
age of 12 - 18) prgram, the SPBC is still willing to consider
supporting the "Youth Division". So if you have a keen interest in
badminton, then use the CONTACT page to confirm your interest.
Pending the firm committements from a reasonable number of young
players the "Youth Division" may still become feasible and
sessions could be booked in in the future. However at this time
badminton players in the age range of 11 to 18 are incouraged to
check out Strathcona Parks and Recreation for opportunities to
play.
Who: the Youth Division is intended to meet the needs of those
in grades 7 to 12 who want to play in the off-season. It is
also open to High School Graduates who played on their school
badminton teams, with the opportunity to court time provided they
are willling to mentor the "Youth Players". Note that there
is no "Drop-in" fee charged for Mentors.
When: HOLD. A list of cancellations is posted on this page.
Where: HOLD
How Much: $5 Drop-Ins, HOLD "Memberships".
Although the SPBC supplies shuttles, players will need to have their own rackets.
Clean indoor shoes with non-marking soles are a must.
Walking across courts "in play" is dangerous and disrespectful. Repeat violations will not be tolerated.
Next-on-court players will be the ones who have been waiting longest. Singles games are allowed only if nobody is waiting for a court.
Players are allowed one game before giving up their court to those next-on-court. A short warm-up before your game is OK, but please be considerate of those waiting to play.
Cancellations are highlighted in pink
