The Sherwood Park Badminton Club (SPBC) is a community based "recreational" organization that plays out of Salisbury Composite High School from early September until the end of May. We meet from 8:30 to 10:30 on most Tuesday and Thursday nights. However please see our SCHEDULE page for a list of cancellations before you decide to visit.
In exchange for a
reasonable fee (see POLICIES) the SPBC supplies participants with
Yonex Mavis 300 nylon shuttles and access to 6 full doubles
courts. We do NOT supply rackets, so make sure you bring your
own. We typically have between 20 and 40 players come out per
evening, which usually keeps court-waiting times to less than 10
minutes.
The SPBC welcomes players
of all calibre, from "never held a racket before" to
"provincial-level competitor." Our average participant is
between 30-40 years old, but we play host to a range from age 18 to
nearly 80. No matter what your age or experience, we're
confident that you'll feel at home with the Sherwood Park Badminton
Club.
HOW TO FIND US
Salisbury Composite High School is located at the intersection of Brentwood Blvd and Sherwood Drive. The school has two parking lots, and you'll want the smaller one (beside the ball diamond) off of Sherwood Drive. Once you've parked, come in through the nearest doors (marked on the map) and turn to your left. You'll find us in the Large Gym.
Please note that all external doors are locked by the custodian at 9:00. If you arrive later than 9:00 it may be difficult to find someone to let you in.
All Tuesday and/or Thursday participants must be 18 years or older. However under certain conditions players as young as age 16 will be considered. For "under age" related considerations please contact the SPBC via the CONTACT page.
Drop-ins are $5 per evening. Though we try really hard not to, the SPBC reserves the right to limit drop-in players in favour of its members. However, in the 30+ years the Club has been operational, the right to limit drop-ins has never been implemented, but it has certainly come close.
"Tuesday Membership" are $50 per year (Sept. - May).
"Thursday Membership" are $45 per year (Sept. - May).
The cost differential between the "Memberships" is related to the number of evening of play.
Clean indoor shoes with non-marking soles must be worn.
Walking across courts in play is disrespectful and dangerous. Repeat infractions will not be tolerated.
On evenings with a large (approximately 32 or more) player turn-out, the SPBC may utilize a court-waiting system. Detailed instructions are available here.
Players are allowed one game before surrendering their court. A short warm-up before your game is acceptable, but please be mindful of those waiting to play.
